Founded in 2007, the CABF was established with the vision of bringing greater awareness to the future of Bandas Filarmonicas in Canada. Through the generous donations received from the Portuguese Heritage Band Project recording “
Across the Ocean: The Music of Bandas Filarmonicas”

the CABF is now a fully recognized body with several important objectives. Among these are the support of activities that promote, maintain, and increase the exposure of Bandas Filarmonicas throughout Canada. As well, the CABF aims to foster and expand an appreciation of this musical tradition to adults, children, and future generations of Portuguese descendants.
Other equally important objectives include working to promote a better understanding of the cultural importance of this tradition, as well as a specific focus on music education and community outreach. Built within the by-laws of the CABF is equal representation from all Bandas Filarmonicas across Canada. The uniting of our bands in a shared vision of the future will strengthen our beloved musical tradition.
